2023 CSS Conference Travel Awards
The Comics Studies Society (CSS) is pleased to offer support to graduate students and contingent faculty to cover a portion of the costs for presenting their work at our sixth annual conference, to take place from July 27th-29th at the University of North Texas Gateway Center in Denton, TX.
We are currently accepting applications for the following three CSS travel awards:
The Tilley Travel Awards are named after past CSS President Carol Tilley, who made the creation of travel awards for graduate students and contingent faculty both a goal and a reality for CSS during her tenure on the Executive Board. Thanks to Carol’s leadership, CSS first offered travel awards for graduate and contingent faculty at the second annual CSS conference held at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. We are proud to continue this tradition and pledge to carry it into the future, as well.
Graduate Students (1 award): free registration and $500 (US) towards conference expenses.
Contingent Faculty (1 award): free registration and $500 (US) towards conference expenses.

In an effort to commit to diversity, inclusion and equity, the Comics Studies Society offers two awards to support multiply-marginalized and underrepresented scholars to present work in person at the annual conference. Given the complex axes of difference that make up our membership, we encourage applications from scholars from the Global South; BIPOC, LGBTQ+, trans, nonbinary, and women scholars; disabled and chronically ill scholars; and scholars at the intersections of these and other marginal positions in the academy and beyond.
Multiply-Marginalized and Underrepresented Scholars (2 awards): free registration and $500 (US) towards conference expenses
