#THEKIDSAREALRIGHT: Interrogating and Enacting Youth Empowerment via Comics Pedagogies

Dr. Christian Hines is an Assistant Professor of Literacy and Reading at Texas State University. She is a Blerd (Black nerd), a comics and young adult literature in education scholar-practitioner and a former secondary English teacher. Her research highlights the representation of Black and marginalized youth and adolescence in literature, particularly their visual narratives in comics and graphic novels. Her work has been published in English Journal, The ALAN Review, English Leadership Quarterly, Research on Diversity in Youth Literature, Ohio Journal of English Language Arts, Journal of Children’s Literature and Journal of Cultural Research in Art Education.
